1892 Ito Hirobumi returned to the Japanese prime ministership.

1937 The Japanese Army occupies Beijing, China.

1945 The USSR entered the war against Japan.

1966 CCP Central Committee approved the "Sixteen Points" on the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, "a great revolution that touches people in their very souls."

1967 The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) was created by a declaration of Indonesian, Malaysian, Filipino, Singaporen and Thai foreign ministers in Bangkok.

1973 Kim Dae Jung, South Korean opposition leader (and elected president in 1997), was kidnapped by South
Korean agents in Japan.
