Financial Supervisory ServiceAfter the 1997 crisis in the South Korean economy, the government created a new financial regulatory body to oversee banks and other financial institutions. At present, the website is thin on content.
Korea Economic Institute of America
Funded by the South Korean government, this organization's website includes articles from Institute publications, political and other maps of the Korean pennisula, and information about the Institute's activities in Washington and elsewhere in the United States.
A fast and user-friendly resource, the KSE site offers current data and reports as well as historical data on a composite and industry-focused basis.
Ministry of Finance and Economy (South Korea)
Site includes announcements, policy explanation, and statistics -- including a daily economic indicator page.
Samsung Economic Research Institute
SERI is a private think tank which carries out a variety of research projects. Its website offers considerable information, including a weekly 20 page economic trends bulletin (in .pdf format, requiring the free Adobe Acrobat Reader).
South Korea's largest cities

Maintained by Network Korea, this list is extensive but has not recently been updated. The site emphasizes business and academic links.
This site is operated by the Korea Overseas Information Service, an arm of the South Korean government. Among the resources available at this site are on-line editions of the last few issues of publications such as Korea Journal and Seoul Journal. There are also links to the official news agency, to government press releases and other information sources.
Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles
The site includes a visit to the Center's exhibition hall, information about the mission and activities of the Center, and a list of use links to Korean cultural websites. The KCC is part of the South Korean Ministry of Culture.
Official Sensitive Map of Korea
It isn't clear what makes this map official, but the map provides a clickable vehicle to a list of websites relating to specific points in Korea. For example, clicking on a particular city will bring up a list of links to schools and businesses in that city.
Ancient Korean History
Created as part of a 1994 UC Berkeley undergraduate history seminar, this site is quick and simple. Its greatest strength is the inclusion of several texts concerning the founding of Korea.
Eyewitness: A North Korean Remembers
A Korean account of Korean history, 1930-1955. The author worked for the CIA in Korea and later emigrated to the United States, earning a Ph.D., teaching as a university professor, and now, operating his own software company: Kim Petroleum Computers, Inc.

This site features concise introductions to various aspects of Korea's culture and various periods of its history. It includes a large variety of images.
Korean History
A rough (in terms of the English and the contents) outline of Korean history, located at a tour agency site. Includes photographs and cultural notes.
Korean History from the Korean Broadcasting System
(KBS)KBS is operated by the South Korean government. The pages devoted to Korean history are brief, but provide quick coverage and a clear point of view on several thousand years of Korean history. The site mixes text and pictures.
Korean War
- Primarily American Perspectives on the 1950-53 ConflictSite offers a rich collection of personal histories and links to international sites (such as the Canadian War Museum). Remember that Korea, like Vietnam, is a country and civilization, and not just a war.
Korean War Documents
A fast-loading GeoCities site by Steve Carroll. This site includes the texts of several war-related documents. US views are better represented, though treaties and documents pertaining to the Japanese colonization of Korea are included as well.
The Korean War through Chinese Eyes
Compiled by Yue Dongxiao, this page provides information from a Chinese perspective on the Korean conflict. Military strategy, statistics, comments on POWS, and casualties can all be found here.

The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs pages on North Korea include comments regarding North Korea's August 31, 1998 launch of a missile over Japan and other matters between the two nations.
KCNA is the official voice of the government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea). Its website is housed in Japan.
This organization is based in Japan. It's website provides information about North Korea, including news about natural disasters, diplomatic relations, announcements from the North Korean leadership, and more.
The US Information Agency pages on North Korea include texts from joint declarations, speeches by US officials, and more.
